Potato au Gratin

4 to 6 potatoes, peeled and sliced
1 cup grated cheese
½ cup chopped ham
3 tbs butter
1 small onion, chopped
1tbs plain flour
salt & pepper to taste
325mL milk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180oC. Grease a shallow 2L dish.
  2. Microwave the potato slices until barely cooked (3 to 5 min).
  3. Saute the onion in the butter.
  4. Remove from heat. Add the flour and mix until all the flour becomes crumbly.
  5. Add ¼ of the milk and stir until combined, then add remaining milk and stir.
  6. Arrange layers of potato, ham and cheese in the dish, finishing with cheese. Pour the sauce over the potatoes.
  7. Bake for ½ hour, or until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese has browned.
  8. Serve immediately.
